7 PM - Debut performance of Ron Powers’ new play about Samuel Clemens, “Sam and Laura” – presented by the University of Missouri Drama Department
Saturday, October 16
10 AM to 5 PM - Museum Open House, Angels Camp - Stop by and see the Mark Twain Exhibit!
10 AM – Symposium on the life and work of Samuel Clemens presented by scholars from the Mark Twain Project at the Bancroft Library, University of California, Berkeley, who have recently completed a comprehensive “autobiography” with previously unpublished material written by Clemens. A pre-publication release of Volume 1 of that work will be available for purchase. Greenhorn Creek, CAMPS Restaurant. Symposium participants include: Linda Morris, Twain scholar and UC Davis Professor Emeritus; Bob Holton, Motherlode historian and freelance writer; Victor Fischer, editor, Mark Twain Project; Gregg Camfield, professor and Twain scholar, UC Merced; and Ron Powers, author, Mark Twain: A Life.
2 PM - Matinee Performance of “Sam and Laura” (Bret Harte Theater, Angels Camp)
6PM - Gala Evening– An evening celebrating Mark Twain with Ron Powers, author of “Mark Twain, A Life,” a New York Times Bestseller (Greenhorn Creek, CAMPS Restaurant). The California Press Association will present the first Mark Twain Award to Samuel Clemens for his contributions to the journalism and literature of California. The evening’s entertainment will include music of the Gold Rush era as well as McAvoy Lane, an internationally known Mark Twain impersonator, and video presentation with Will Durst, a San Francisco political satirist who carries on the “stand up” tradition of social comment pioneered by Mark Twain, and with Bob Hirst, general editor of the Mark Twain Project and Papers at UC Berkeley.

Come by the Angels Camp Museum to see the Twain exhibit! If you paid to attend any event during the festival, addmission into the museum to see the Mark Twain exhibit is FREE!
